Paraguay urges the completion of development commitments with landlocked countries

27 September 2015

The President of Paraguay today highlighted the section of the 2030 Agenda that commits to taking concrete measures so that countries without a coastline or in some other special situation overcome the obstacles to their development.

In this sense, Horacio Cartes advocated the incorporation of the specific needs of these countries into the work programs of the relevant international organizations, financial institutions and, above all, of the countries in transit to the sea.

In his speech at the UN General Assembly during the Sustainable Development Summit, Cartes expressed the commitment of his country and argued that solidarity and international cooperation are essential to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

“We know that the objectives that we will adopt at this Summit are ambitious and represent a challenge, but if we achieve political consensus at the international, regional and national levels, those goals are fully achievable,” he said.

The Paraguayan president added that for this it is necessary to implement adequate public policies and allocate resources that follow transparent and accountable mechanisms.
