The UN Deputy Secretary-General today highlighted the importance of Development Goal 7 of the 2030 Agenda, which refers to sustainable energy for all, and encouraged world leaders to ensure that this goal is met.

Jan Elliasson highlighted in a high-level event held during the Sustainable Development Summit, that it is the first time that energy has become a universal goal, with goals on access, renewal, efficiency and ways of implementation .

The UN Secretary General’s “Sustainable Energy for All” initiative will be critical to making that goal a reality by 2030, the senior official said.

This project was established in 2011 and promotes alliances between governments, companies and civil society in this field.

“Equally important to mention are commendable domestic initiatives such as Brazil’s successful“ Luz para Todos ”, the Saudi Arabian program that plans to invest $ 109 billion in solar energy, and India’s strong commitment to energy access for all for 2019, “said Elliason.

The Deputy Secretary General urged us to continue supporting this cause with solid leadership for the benefit of the world population and the planet.
